Congratulations to Mark for successfully kicking the habit for good! Mark has autism, ADHD and suffers from mental health issues and yet against all odds kicked the habit with the help and support of the Yorkshire Smokefree advisors. Mark is a recovered heroin and alcohol addict, so smoking was one of his final hurdles to overcome and he has never looked back since. We caught up with him to see how he found the experience.

What was your main reason for accessing the service?

My main reason was due to COPD and to improve my complexion.

Did you believe you could achieve 4 weeks smokefree?

I didn't think I could do it no!

Have you used stop smoking medication to help you quit and how helpful did you find it?

I started off by using patches and then I moved to mouth spray, I found them very helpful.

Apart from medication, what else helped you to quit and stay smokefree?

I maintained a positive mindset throughout and I also had great support from my Yorkshire Smokefree advisor Stevie.

Has your health improved since you quit?

Yes! I also have a much more improved concentration and feel so much more motivated.

Has the current lockdown helped with your quit?

It made it easier in terms of not seeing other smokers, but made it harder with the bordem.

What have you found helpful about accessing the service via telephone?

Excellent, it was much easier not being tied to having to travel into town and it worked around my work schedule.
