I had reached an age where I started to think about my own mortality, and I knew that continuing to smoke would shorten my life expectancy.  I had also witnessed the decline and death of a very good friend (who was also a smoker) from lung cancer. I had stopped smoking previously back in 2012 with the birth of my grandson, and didn’t smoke for about 18 months, but after the death of a dear friend, I started again.

I had been contemplating quitting for about several months and by attending regular appointments at the stop smoking clinic based in the Wakefield One building, it gave me the encouragement that I needed. I looked forward to my appointments with my advisor Julia each week and especially enjoyed seeing the level on the carbon monoxide monitor dropping. My hair and clothes no longer smell, I don’t have brown tar stains on my fingers, and I feel so much better knowing that I am no longer putting toxic chemicals into my lungs.

Huge congratulations on your quit, Julie! Your advisor Julia is so proud of everything you have achieved.
