Carol thought quitting tobacco would be hard, but by working with our stop smoking team in Wakefield she found the journey "surprisingly easy". We're really proud of Carol and the work she has done to make this a successful quit. Keep up the hard work Carol and enjoy both the health and wealth benefits that stopping smoking brings! You are a true inspiration!
Here's Carol's story:
Carol had tried to stop smoking countless times before, always on New Years Eve, but by New Years Day, she had reached for a cigarette again. Things changed for Carol when she was taken into hospital to have stents fitted and the doctor had told her she was lucky to have not had a heart attack. With these words in her head, she decided to take action and joined the Stop Smoking Service at Lupset where she would find finally succeed in her quit attempt.
Carol says she found this quit surprisingly easy and used a combination of patches and lozenges to help her quit. In the beginning, Carol found herself getting a lot of food cravings and was getting up at 3am to go and get a bowl of cereal as she felt that hungry, but thankfully that has now passed and she is back to eating normally and getting a good night’s sleep. We talked about how common these cravings can be; this is down to the chemicals in cigarettes that alter the receptors in your taste buds, reducing the capability to taste food. Once you have quit smoking, your taste buds start to heal and flavours become more pronounced, resulting in food tasting much nicer.
Not only is food tasting better, but Carol is also saving £60 per week by not smoking and with the money she is saving, she planning a family holiday to Torquay.
