Congratulations to Mark on his successful quit, having the support of a service like ours will help you on your journey and keep you smokefree!

What was your main reason for accessing the service?

To get my health back after a heart attack.

Did you believe you could achieve 4 weeks smokefree?

At first no and I felt that I would be smashing my head against a brick wall because of the amount of cigs I was smoking. However, positive thinking and wanting a better life for myself got me through.

Have you used stop smoking medication to help you quit?

Yes, I used the patches and chewing gum, I found it really helpful I had a craving.

Apart from medication, what else helped you to quit and stay smokefree?

The thought of having another heart attack helped me a lot!

Did you visit the Yorkshire Smokefree webpage?

Yes, the client zone was very helpful especially when the cravings were at their peak.

Has your health improved since you quit and if so, in what ways?

Yes, I can taste my food better and I'm not out of breath as much although I know I will never be 100% due to the heart attack.

Other than health, have you achieved anything since quitting that you couldn't do whilst smoking?

No not really, everything is the same.

Has the current lockdown helped you with your quit or has this made quitting harder?

It made it harder, not knowing what Covid-19 was going to create.

What have you found helpful accessing the service via the Telephone?

There is always someone human to talk to who has been there themselves.

The only thing I can say about quitting is that it has been hell and a hard road but there are benefits at the end of it.
