Gaynor's biggest motivation to quit smoking was her grandchildren, health, and finances. Here’s what Gaynor had to say about her journey:

"I first met my Smoking Advisor at Normanton Library during a Stoptober promotion. I was going to the gym with my sister for the first time in ages and saw Marie. I had been wanting to quit for a while and felt this was like a sign—it was time to do this! I had my sessions at Butterflies Children’s Centre.

I didn’t think I could ever do this, as I had tried a few times before and never succeeded. The patches and inhalators were successful—I’m now on 10 mg and don’t feel I need to have one on every day now, and I’ve stopped using the inhalators. I am 12 weeks smoke-free now, and the incentive for Routine and Manual workers with the voucher scheme is a bonus!

I feel much healthier. I absolutely hate being around smokers now; I cannot stand the smell. I went on holiday in January 2025 to Egypt and can honestly say this is the first time I have ever been away without smoking. It was a pleasure to just be able to relax.

I don’t feel like an outsider anymore. I was the only one smoking in my circle of family and friends. It feels great to say to the GP, ‘I am a non-smoker now!’

I can now run on the treadmill without getting out of breath, I have no chest pains, and I have saved money. Without the help, support, and motivation from Marie at the clinic, I would never have been able to do this. A massive thank you to the service!"

Congratulations, Gaynor! Your story is a testament to the power of determination and support.
