A massive congratulations to expectant mother Ann-Marie, who found out she was pregnant just after she successfully quit smoking and became the change her little one needed. Here is her story in her own words.
I can honestly say that deciding to quit the habit was the easiest step I’ve ever taken, and although the journey to becoming smoke-free itself was one that I struggled (with some unsurety and doubts) to overcome at first, it was the beginning of many positive an unexpected changes in my life.
Once I paired up with Yorkshire Smokefree and its amazing experts (especially Nicola) who went above and beyond to offer me help, support and advice throughout stopping smoking from start to finish, I began using patches. They allowed me to begin sailing through the process with less and less resistance until I was no longer struggling, I was thriving.
I’d stopped smoking completely, only utilising the patches I was given, when I was given my greatest blessing and ultimate reason to carry on changing my life, my health, my finances and my motivation to be my best self. I was carrying a special little human inside me. I am a mother now.
My baby gave me all the will power I required to stay quit for good. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention how much the support from my wider family helped too. I want to take this opportunity to sincerely and wholeheartedly thank them and Yorkshire Smokefree for the services they provide, how they support individuals and communities and ultimately save lives.
An extra bonus I didn’t foresee is that I've saved so much money already - it's unbelievable! I feel so much healthier and no longer catch myself thinking about smoking. To any others interested in quitting the habit, I’d encourage you to go for it and don’t look back.
