Every 15 minutes someone is diagnosed with bowel cancer and it’s the UK’s second biggest cancer killer but it shouldn’t be. It’s treatable and curable especially if diagnosed early. Nearly everyone survives bowel cancer if diagnosed at the earliest stage however this drops significantly as the disease develops.

The following information from NHS England & Improvement has been cascaded through Maternity Safety Champions and MTP networks.
We are aware that there has been some concern around carbon monoxide (CO) testing and the risk of disease transmission in the context of the coronavirus outbreak.
In view of the unprecedented circumstances we suggest it is appropriate to pause CO testing of pregnant women during this period as a precautionary measure. It should be re-introduced as soon as the COVID-19 situation has resolved to a background risk.

In light of the national efforts to reduce the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus) we are stopping face-to-face stop smoking consultations from immediate effect.
We continue to deliver high quality telephone support so if you are currently receiving telephone support from us, this will continue as normal.
If you were attending face to face sessions with an adviser or you were having group support, this will be replaced by support from an adviser over the phone.

As the Government again highlights the risks to smokers from coronavirus Action on Smoking and Health (ASH) is joining health professionals in calling on smokers to #QuitforCovid.
Speaking in the Commons yesterday in response to a question from Bob Blackman MP Chair of the APPG on Smoking and Health, Secretary of State for Health Matt Hancock said: “It is abundantly clear from the research into previous coronaviruses that smoking makes the impact of a coronavirus worse.”

The Chief Medical Officer has highlighted that smokers are more susceptible to respiratory infections making this an important time to encourage smokers to quit. ASH has had contact from smokers saying the current situation has given them the final push to quit, and asking for further information on quit support.
