February marks LGBTQ+ History Month, a time to reflect on the history, struggles and triumphs of the LGBTQ+ community. At Yorkshire Smokefree, we’re proud to highlight our commitment to providing inclusive and accessible support to all individuals looking to embark on a journey towards a smoke free life.

As part of our dedication to serving the diverse needs of our community, we have established a specialist LGBTQ+ network of advisors. One of the invaluable members of this team is David, who not only serves as a Smokefree Sheffield advisor but also collaborates with a dedicated service area team to ensure that our approach to LGBTQ+ issues are comprehensive and inclusive, both within our service and for our service users.

Our mission is clear: to make our stop smoking service accessible to YOU. We understand that seeking support to quit smoking can be a deeply personal journey, and feeling comfortable and understood during this process is essential. That’s why we offer the option to work with an LGBTQ+ advisor if that aligns with your preferences and needs.

These roles exemplify our commitment to creating a welcoming and supportive environment for all individuals, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. By offering specialised support through our LGBTQ+ network, we aim to break down barriers and ensure that everyone feels empowered to begin their smoke free journey on their own terms.

In addition to offering specialised advisors, we also recognise the importance of reasonable adjustments in providing truly inclusive care. These adjustments are modifications made to our service to better accommodate the needs of our clients. For instance, if you prefer to work with an advisor who shares your LGBTQ+ identity to feel more at ease during your appointments, we can facilitate that request with confidentiality and respect.

Understanding that accessibility goes beyond identity, we extend our commitment to reasonable adjustments to individuals with disabilities as well. It’s all part of our dedication to ensuring that everyone has equal access to the support they need to live a healthier, smoke free life.

So, as we celebrate LGBTQ+ History Month, we invite you to take the first step towards a smoke free future with the support of our inclusive and understanding team. Remember, you quit, your way. Let us help you make it happen.
